In the process of photosynthesis; sunlight, carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, water and nutrients, along with chlorophyll in the leaf, combine to produce the needed carbohydrates required for plant growth and health. Generally the nutrients are soluble in the ground water and enter the plant through the membrane of the root, with the water, and are carried up the xylem tissue in the vascular bundle and distributed throughout the leaf where the carbohydrates are produced. The carbohydrates are then distributed throughout the plant and carried to the root for storage by the phloem tissue.
If we increase any of these factors needed for photosynthesis then we increase carbohydrate production in the plant.
