Utilizing Nutra Green™ and Ultraplex®

with Proven Foliar™ Technology

The Technology

Grigg Brothers® Proven Foliar™ Technology includes a proprietary formulation of organic chelating agents designed and documented to increase nutrient use efficiency (Gaussoin, 2009). This facilitates enhanced plant use which corresponds to optimum performance and limited nutrient losses to the environment.  In addition, this technology provides maximum compatibility and plant safety. The program and associated technology are beneficial because they provide an adequate nutrient supply when soil temperatures remain below optimum and/or other soil physical or chemical property limit nutrient uptake via plant roots.

Rationale

For many golf course superintendents in the northern climates, the recovery of turfgrasses from winter dormancy and/or damage remains slow due to factors including turf species, air and soil temperatures, and the extent of winter damage to plant crowns and roots. In these cases and where winter injury is not too severe, a foliar fertilizer that provides balanced and efficient mineral nutrients will stimulate plant metabolism and subsequently color and growth.  Vertical and lateral growth promotes vigor and recovery from winter stress and dormancy. Spoon feeding organically chelated nutrients provides controlled growth when soil temperatures are suboptimal, and nutrients important for protein biosynthesis (nitrogen; N), energy transfer (phosphorus; P), chlorophyll production (magnesium; Mg and iron; Fe), and optimum photosynthetic capacity (manganese; Mn).

Products and Program

The program is designed for use on golf course putting greens and tees, and also sports fields.
Apply the following Proven Foliar fertilizers 3-4 times every 7-10 days:

• 6 fl.oz / 1,000 FT2 -- Nutra Green™ 5-10-5 +0.1% Mg, 0.2% Mn, 0.1% Zn
6 fl.oz / 1,000 FT2 -- Ultraplex® 5-0-3 +1.0% Fe, 0.1% Mn +buffering agent*, non-ionic surfactant*, and biostimulant package*

* The buffering agent allows the spray tank solution to resist changes in pH.  The non-ionic surfactant maximizes nutrient/crop protectant/plant growth regulator intake.  The biostimulant package provides enhance abiotic (non-living) stress tolerance.

Initiate the first application after the first or second mowing.

To complete this spring program supplement the highly efficient GreenSpec™ Granular Technology in Seven Iron™ at aeration, which contains soluble N to promote recovery, food grade protein technology for slowly available and extended color response, and soluble / insoluble Fe for enhanced color.

Apply 7 lbs per 1,000 FT2 (0.5 lbs N/1,000) Seven Iron (7-7-7 + 7Fe, 0.4 Mn, 0.4 Zn) after aeration and sand topdressing to promote recovery from mechanical stress and provide outstanding color for 4-5 weeks.
