The Value of Nu-Blade and Foliar Applications Generally speaking superintendents who overseed bermudagrass with cool season varieties in the fall for winter play have about a 30 day grace period from their clubs for preparation, planting and grow in. The challenge to superintendents who overseed is to have the course playable and in good condition at the end of that grace period. The new germinating seedlings have a limited root system and those new roots are surviving in the thatch layer of the bermudagrass where nutrients are not available until they reach the soil. When you combine the fact that there are 13 essential nutrients required by all higher plants (other than C, H & O2, which are provided by water and carbon dioxide), you have a problem. Normal Plant health, growth, and development are dependent on all of the essential elements. Many scientists believe that the presence of all 13 elements at optimum concentration is crucial to new plant growth and survival, especially during the overseed season when temperature can cause periods of stress on the young plants. After four years of research Grigg Brothers scientific team has produced a solution to help accelerate the growth on the new germinating seedlings. Nu-Blade Nu-Blade is a unique extract designed to accelerate growth and development of seedlings. When applied over the new seeds before germination the root and shoot are increased significantly in the first 10 days of growth. This accelerated growth establishes a larger root mass, and provides a shoot that is able to penetrate to the soil faster; have a larger leaf surface, and initiate a higher photosynthetic rate. Roots are not photosynthetic and are therefore 100% dependent on the photosynthetic energy captured in the leaves and shoots. This often means the difference between a good or successful turfgrass stand. Nu-Blade has been scientifically tested on most turfgrasses. The increase in root mass of the seedlings helps increase nutrient uptake from the starter fertilizer which has been applied to the soil. In addition to accelerated growth response, treated seeds may be more resistant to diseases, through the presence of natural elicitors that induce disease resistance to the seedling and the plant. Nu-Blade scientific tests show that when applied over the seed before germination, at a 4 gallon per acre (12 oz per 1000 sq/ft) rate, the growth of the seedlings is increased by an average of 66%. Nu-Blade should also be applied as a foliar after the first 2 week period and then applied at the rate of 1 gallon per acre (3 oz per 1000 sq/ft). True foliar fertilization bypasses many problems of the seedlings as the applied nutrients are immediately available to the plant! The Grigg Brothers grow-in foundation is: Week 1 - prior to germination 12 oz of Nu-Blade & 1 1/2 oz of Ultra-Plex per 1,000 sq. ft. Week 2 - 3 oz Nu-Blade - per 1,000 sq. ft. 1 1/2 oz of Ultra-Plex per 1,000 sq. ft. Week 3 - 3 oz Nu-Blade - per 1,000 sq. ft. 1 1/2 oz of Ultra-Plex per 1,000 sq. ft. Next 3 weeks weekly application of: 3 oz Gary's Green 18-3-4 + micros 3 oz P-K Plus 3-21-18 + micros 3 oz Ultra-Plex 5-0-3 + 2% Fe and micros Thereafter use Tournament Program.
