FINAL REPORT
November 22, 2004
INVESTIGATOR: John L. Cisar

OBJECTIVE:
To evaluate the performance of Gary Green and other Grigg Brothers material when used to control bermudagrass decline.

TREATMENTS:
ufl04treatment_page_1

MATERIALS AND METHODS:
On August 2, 2004 the above treatments were applied to 4 replications of 1m x 1m experimental plots on Champion ultradwarf bermudagrass. Treatments were applied every 2 weeks using a CO2 boom type sprayer set to deliver a volume of 1gallon/1000ft2. Turfgrass quality ratings (scale of 1-10 with 10=dark green turf, 1=dead/brown turf and 6=minimally acceptable turf) and disease ratings (scale of 0-9 with 9=most severe and 0=no disease) were taken throughout the experiment. All data was subject to statistical analysis and significant means were determined.

RESULTS:
Significant treatment differences were observed during primary severe stress periods during August and October 2004 for turfgrass quality (Tables 1a-b). This bracketed a period of active hurricane weather in south Florida. From 8/9 through 9/13, and on 9/27, Trts. 1 and 2 had higher turfgrass ratings than Trt. 3 (Tables 1a-b). On 10/4 Trt. 2 had the highest rating, significantly higher than Trt. 3 and equal to Trt. 1 (Tables 1a-b). Thereafter, no turfgrass quality significant differences were observed.
Turf “disease-like symptom” ratings were made during the trial period and significant treatment differences were observed and generally followed the turfgrass quality ratings (Tables 2a-b). There were more disease-like symptoms observed for Trt. 3 from 8/9 compared to one or both of the other treatments
through 9/13 (Table 2a). For example, on 9/13, Trt. 3 had a higher disease-like rating than Trt. 2 and it was statistically-equal to Trt. 1 (Table 2a). Thereafter, no significant differences were observed although there was a trend for a higher disease-like rating for Trt. 3 (Table 2a-2b).
