Abstract: Anthracnose (Colletotrichum graminicola) has become a major disease problem on golf course putting greens and on a variety of turfgrass species. An integrated approach is often the most effective management strategy for lessening the severity and incidence of this disease, including the utilization of appropriate cultural practices and a rotational fungicide program. Low mowing heights, low N or unbalanced fertility, mechanical injury, or any adverse environmental condition which increases plant stress will increase the risk for disease development. This research topic was initiated to determine the effect of highly efficient foliar fertilizer programs applied in combination with low label fungicide rates on anthracnose incidence and severity on an annual bluegrass (Poa annua) putting green. Grigg Brothers foliar fertilizers [ 18-3-4 + micronutrients + potassium phosphite (K2PO3)] applied in combination with Daconil Ultrex (1.8 oz/M) provided the best anthracnose suppression and was significantly better than the control on all three rating dates. This treatment provided significantly less disease than the Daconil Ultrex (1.8 oz/M) applied alone on Sept. 10 and Sept. 24 (Figure 1). In addition, the foliar fertilizer program which included potassium phosphite in the form of PK Plus provided significantly better anthracnose suppression than the control plots on all three rating dates and on the Sept. 1 rating date provided better suppression of the disease than Daconil Ultrex (1.8 oz/M) and Banner Maxx (1 oz/M) applied alone (Figure 1). Based on these results, applying Grigg Brothers foliar fertilizers, including those that contain phosphite, can significantly enhanced the performance of low label fungicide rates. Apply efficient foliar fertilizers every 7-14 days that contain nitrogen (0.1 lb N/M) and phosphite as part of an integrated approach to anthracnose management.
